Blackburn and Newcastle given green light to move for Kris Boyd as Rangers boss Walter Smith loses battle to keep star striker
By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 10:04 AM on 28th May 2010

Kris Boyd will definitely leave Rangers this summer, manager Walter Smith has conceded.

Smith has given up hope of the club's star striker signing a new contract at Ibrox and wished him well at which ever team he ends up joining.

Boyd, whose 26 goals last season helped him become the Scottish Premier League's all-time record scorer, has been linked with Birmingham, Newcastle and Turkish outfits Kayserispor and Trabzonspor. While Blackburn are also keen on the Scotland international.

On his way: Boyd will leave Rangers in the summer

Smith, who this week signed a new one-year contract himself, told the Daily Record: 'Kris is going. There is no doubt about that now. We have never wanted to admit he would leave but we are doing so now.

'We've made him an offer but he's getting much higher offers from other clubs and he is going. 'Kris leaves here with the best wishes of every one of us at Rangers. He has been absolutely terrific for this club and his scoring record is second to none.

'I know people have said I had a problem with Kris because I left him out of a lot of my starting teams but I actually get on very well with him. I must admit I like him and I hope he is a success wherever he goes.

'I'm disappointed we can't offer enough to keep him with us but I really do wish him continued success.'
Boyd will join Nacho Novo, DaMarcus Beasley and Steve Smith in leaving Rangers when his contract expires.

Captain David Weir and Kirk Broadfoot have also yet to agree new deals, while Danny Wilson, Kevin Thomson and Madjid Bougherra have all been linked with moves away

Striker Boyd in talks with Arveladze's Kayserispor

Kris Boyd has held talks with Shota Arveladze over a move to Kayserispor, the Turkish club's manager has revealed.

Kris Boyd scored 23 SPL goals for Rangers last season

Former Rangers striker Arveladze is hoping his personal phone calls to Boyd will help him win the race for the prolific forward, who is set to leave Ibrox when his contract expires this summer.

Arveladze now plans to meet Boyd face to face, the Georgian saying in the Sunday Mail: ''I have had conversations with Kris and we will talk some more. I'm hopeful he will decide to come here but I know he has other options.

''I really want him to join me. I've made this a priority and hope the personal touch I've added to the move will work in my favour.

''Some coaches prefer to let the club president do the talking but I think the coach should always speak to the player and outline plans.''

Birmingham, Newcastle, Blackburn, Wolves, Ankaragucu and Bursaspor have all been linked with Boyd, who this season became the Scottish Premier League's all-time record goalscorer.

Rangers star Kris Boyd edges closer to Turkish move after phonecall from boss Shota Arveladze
May 30 2010 Mark Guidi, Sunday Mail

KRIS BOYD last night edged closer to joining Kayserispor after holding talks with boss Shota Arveladze.

MailSport can reveal the telephone discussions were positive and Boyd is now weighing up a three-year contract offer that would earn him £2.2million each season.

But Middlesbrough have emerged as the Turkish club's main rival for the out-of-contract Rangers star. Boro boss Gordon Strachan has made it clear he is keen to land Boyd and has been chasing him since January.

However, Arveladze is in pole position and wants to play to Boyd's strengths by using him as a penalty-box predator in Turkey.

Former Rangers striker Arveladze will now meet Boyd face to face. And the Georgian told MailSport: "I have had conversations with Kris and we will talk some more.

"I'm hopeful he will decide to come here but I know he has other options.

"I really want him to join me. I've made this a priority and hope the personal touch I've added to the move will work in my favour.

"Some coaches prefer to let the club president do the talking but I think the coach should always speak to the player and outline plans."

Boyd has played his last game for Rangers and a decision on his future is expected within a fortnight. Newcastle, Blackburn, Wolves, Birmingham, Ankaragucu and Bursaspor are also still in the running.

Shittu turns down a move to Turkey
10:50am Monday 31st May 2010

DANNY Shittu has turned down the chance to join Turkish club Kayserispor after the World Cup finals.

The big centre-half is one of a handful of players who have been told by Owen Coyle that they can find another club after failing to break into his first-team plans last season.

Shittu flew out for talks last week in a bid to finalise the move before he goes to South Africa with Nigeria but it is understood he had reservations about moving his young family across the continent, and is now hoping for a move closer to the UK.

“We allowed Danny to go out to Turkey to talk to the club and see if he fancied it,” Coyle told The Bolton News.

“He spoke to them but it never got to the stage where talks developed club to club.

“In the end, he decided it wasn’t for him, so that’s where we are at with that one.”

Kayserispor were due to take Shittu on a free transfer, just two years after Gary Megson had brought him to the club for just over £2million.

Danny Shittu says Nigeria's World Cup campaign is currently taking priority over any decisions on his future.

The centre-back has been offered a two-year deal by Turkish club Kayserispor, and is available for free transfer after failing to feature under Owen Coyle at Bolton this season.

Shittu went to Turkey earlier this month to look around the club and is currently weighing up the £1million-a-year contract offer, but insists his primary focus is on his national team commitments for South Africa this summer.

"It's good to see what clubs have to offer so I'm glad I went but I'm in the Nigerian World Cup camp just now and that's all I'm really thinking about," Shittu told the Daily Record.

Deal
Meanwhile, out-of-contract Rangers star Kris Boyd has also been in talks with Kayserispor's boss, ex-Gers striker Shota Arveladze, over a possible deal.

And Shittu has urged any potential signings to make the same trip he did and see what the club have to offer first-hand.

"Kayserispor have a nice stadium and the training ground is very good with top facilities," he added.

"Everything about the club was very positive and I wouldn't put players off going out to see it for themselves."

DICK ADVOCAAT believes Shota Arveladze and Kayserispor have the perfect set-up for Kris Boyd to experience Turkish delight.
The Little General believes his former Rangers striker Arveladze, 37, has everything in place to be a successful boss.

Plus the know-how to ensure SPL legend Boyd maintains his phenomenal goalscoring away from the only league he's ever known.

Russia coach Advocaat - Gers boss from 1998-2001 - said: "I wanted to bring Shota to Russia to help me with the team's Euro 2012 campaign.

"He was my assistant at AZ Alkmaar and I trusted him but he has his own role now in Turkey.

"Shota is at the right age to be a No1 at Kayserispor.

Legend

"What people in Scotland probably don't realise is he is a legend in Turkey.

"He spent four years at Trabzonspor before joining Ajax and then Rangers.

"He has a lot of status and he has a chance of success because Kayserispor are a good club.

"They have a new stadium and fantastic training ground and they'll back him to try and get players.

"I don't know what will happen for Boyd but if he heads for Turkey Shota will make sure he's well treated."

Boyd: Why I’ve got to quit GersBy ROBERT GRIEVE

Published: 01 Jun 2010

KRIS BOYD last night opened his heart on his pain at quitting Rangers.
The Ibrox striker, right, spent months agonising over his future before finally deciding to leave Gers.

But he WON'T be switching to Celtic, whose interest in the Ibrox hitman was exclusively revealed in SunSport last week.

Turks Kayserispor have offered Boyd £50,000 a week with Blackburn, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Wolves all interested.

But Celtic's move was doomed from the start.

Last night Boyd said: "This has been the biggest decision of my life.

"I've spent months thinking about what to do and still haven't come to a final decision.

"But it's time to leave Scottish football. I need a fresh challenge."

Boyd's agent will now hold contract talks with Kayserispor this week - a deal first revealed by SunSport last August.

It's still not certain that's where he'll end up.

But the side bossed by ex-Rangers star Shota Aveladze have tabled a contract worth £2.5million.

Boyd now faces heart-to-heart discussions with his family on whether moving abroad is right.

Crucial

Clubs in England are still in the hunt and are poised to up the ante with solid offers.

Boyd added: "I just need to take my time before deciding what's next for me. This is an important move for me.

"It needs to be somewhere I enjoy my football, that's crucial.

"Wherever I go, the money will be there, but it's not about that. It really isn't. The most important thing is you enjoy playing."

Boyd was often left disappointed by Walter Smith with the Rangers boss leaving him out for big games.

But the striker insists that is NOT the reason for his departure.

He added: "At the end of the day Walter Smith is the manager and he needs to make decisions.

"I didn't always agree with them. But that's football. It's in the past now and I have no problem with the gaffer.

"The job he has done since he's come back to Rangers is unbelievable.

"I wish him all the best in his final season and hope it's a successful one. I'm sure it will be."
